The prices come from Kraken's public ticker service. Our server asks Kraken for the latest figures at most once a minute and stores the answer; every visitor then sees that stored copy. Your browser never contacts Kraken, so no data about you leaves this site.
What the columns mean:
Prices are shown in each pair's own quote currency, so BTC/EUR is always in euro no matter which currency you selected in the site header. If Kraken cannot be reached, the page says so instead of showing outdated numbers as if they were live.
Say the table shows BTC/USD at $86,571.70 with a change of −0.03%. That means bitcoin last traded at that price on Kraken, and it is currently 0.03% below where it opened at midnight UTC - practically unchanged. If the 24-hour high is $87,446.70 and the low is $85,100.00, the price has moved in a range of roughly 2,300 dollars during the day, which tells you more about the market's mood than the single last price does.

Because we show the change since midnight UTC, which is what Kraken's public ticker provides. Many sites show a rolling 24-hour change instead, so the two figures rarely match exactly.
