Each trade multiplies your capital by (1 + profit per trade ÷ 100). The table below repeats this once for each of the first 20 trades:
Capital after n trades = Starting capital × (1 + profit per trade ÷ 100)ⁿ
To find how many trades it takes to reach your target, we work backwards: the smallest whole number of trades n for which that formula reaches or passes your target amount.
This assumes every trade gains exactly the percentage you enter — real trading includes losing trades too, so treat this as a way to see how compounding adds up, not a promise of how many trades it will actually take.
Suppose you start with $10,000, aim for 3% profit on each trade, and want to reach $15,000. It would take 14 trades to get there, ending with about $15,125.90 — 3% compounding trade after trade adds up faster than a single 3% gain would suggest.
The table below shows the same $10,000 growing trade by trade: about $10,300 after 1 trade, $11,592.74 after 5 trades, $13,439.16 after 10 trades, and $18,061.11 after the full 20 trades if you kept trading past your target.
We look for the smallest whole number of trades for which starting capital × (1 + profit per trade ÷ 100) raised to that many trades reaches or passes your target. If your target is already at or below your starting capital, no trades are needed.
Then the target can never be reached (0% or negative growth) or would take an unrealistic number of trades, and we show that plainly rather than a made-up number. Enter a positive profit percentage to see how many trades would reach your target.
Yes — this is a simplified projection assuming the same fixed percentage gain on every trade, with no losing trades. Real trading includes losses, so actual results will vary; use this to see how compounding works, not as a guarantee of your outcome.
